To the Teacher
- Download the Fortune Cookie Pattern and make copies for your class.
- Provide students with pencils, scissors, crayons, and strips of paper for writing proverbs.
- Together write attribute-related proverbs and list them on the chalkboard.
- Demonstrate how to make paper fortune cookies following the instructions below.
Tips
- Post fortune cookies with proverbs inside on an honesty bulletin board for others to read and put back inside.
- As an alternative to writing your own proverbs, investigate to find Chinese or attribute proverbs online. (Keyword: Chinese proverbs) (Keyword: honesty proverbs) Choose appropriate proverbs for your class, list on the board, and discuss with students.
To the Student
- Cut out the circle following the dotted line.
- Lightly fold the pattern in half and in half again.
- Pinch at the center and attach to a bulletin board at this point.
- Write your proverb on one side of a strip of paper, decide which Heartwood attribute it portrays, and color the other side of the paper strip in the appropriate Heartwood color (e.g. color a courage proverb red).
- Put them inside paper fortune cookies with ends of slips exposed so others can read and replace the “fortunes.”
